Scotland has a lot to offer, with stunning scenery and so much to see and do. One of the best ways to see Scotland, particularly rural areas on roads less travelled, is by taking your motorhome through some of the country’s most popular scenic routes.

Glasgow to Oban

The drive from Glasgow to Oban offers some of the breathtaking rural views that Scotland is famed for.

On the way is Loch Lomond, a perfect place to pull over and take in the amazing views, and, if you have the time, why not even go for a walk or get on your bike for a fantastic day out in the fresh air?

Continue north and then west towards Oban. Oban itself is a beautiful Scottish town on the coast, and has an excellent variety of cafes and restaurants to relax in after a long day on the road.

Scottish Highlands

To get the most of what rural Scotland has to offer, take a short drive through the Highlands. Set off from Callendar, a pretty town that lies immediately south of the Highland Boundary Fault.

Begin driving in a north-westerly direction and prepare to take in the dramatic scenery of the Scottish Highlands. Carry on following the route towards Glencoe, stopping a few times along the way to take in the views and perhaps have some lunch.

You can stop in Glencoe overnight, or if you wish you can carry on to Fort William, otherwise known as the ‘outdoor capital of the UK’.

Edinburgh to St. Andrews

Take the scenic route from Edinburgh to St. Andrews and drive across the breathtaking Forth Road Bridge. Along the way there are some pretty fishing villages, such as Elie and Anstruther, that are definitely worth stopping in.

Continue driving along the coast towards St. Andrews, where you will get some stunning sea views. You can stop in any of the coastal towns or villages for a bite to eat, or simply pull over to enjoy your own meal in your motorhome as you take in the scenery.

Upon arriving in St. Andrews, you’ll find it has plenty to offer, including a large choice of restaurants and cafes, as well as numerous camping sites where you can stay the night.

Scotland has many scenic driving routes to be explored, and we at Rennie Motorhomes believe that the best way to explore them is by motorhome. If you are looking for motorhome hire in Scotland, contact us today by calling 01224 723330.
